Announcement at QUT of new Defence CRC for Trusted Autonomous Systems.

 

QUT to lead national robotic defence research: QUT will lead research in the new Defence CRC for Trusted Autonomous Systems announced by Federal Minister for Defence Industry Christopher Pyne.

Saliva test aims to detect HPV throat cancers: QUT is developing a simple saliva test to detect human papilloma virus (HPV) in throat cancers, in an extension of a QUT collaboration with Johnson & Johnson Innovation, Janssen Vaccines & Prevention, and Janssen Cilag Pty Ltd.

Targeting myopia through next gen contact lenses: A new type of contact lens that can change your eye’s growth to stop eyesight deteriorating is being developed in Brisbane, thanks to a research partnership between QUT’s Professor Michael Collins and Johnson & Johnson Vision - the world's largest contact lens manufacturer.

Talking AI to the next generation: QUT Professor of Robotics Michael Milford has produced The Complete Guide to Artificial Intelligence for Kids, an illustrated guide to introduce primary school-aged children to the transformative technology that is AI.

How's the humidity? Hot exercise tips:  Top tips from QUT thermoregulation expert and sports physiologist Dr Andrew Hunt for exercising in toasty temperatures to avoid heat exhaustion or worse, deadly heatstroke.

Virtual population gets to heart of irregular beats: A ‘virtual population’ model calibrated from data of electrical activity of heart cells previously collected from 350 people will enable researchers to better understand why some people have irregular heart rhythm.

Retail issues were a media focus over the festive season and new year, with Associate Professor Gary Mortimer interviewed on a range of topics, including experiences as the future of physical stores for 9 Finance, GoPro’s share drop with news.com.au and retailers downsizing and closing with ABC Radio and Smart Company.

 

Professor Michael Milford  discussed drones as transportation with Sky News,  driverless cars on ABC Radio Sydney, and his book on explaining AI for primary-school aged kids was featured on ABC Radio Statewide Mornings, Cosmos, and Education Today.
