Brisbane band Halfway, the line-up of which includes QUT music lecturer and former Go-Between John Willsteed, picked up two 2015 Queensland Music Awards last night while QUT student Ayla Scanlan won the $10,000 Billy Thorpe Scholarship.

Halfway's song Dulcify won the coveted Song of Year award and also Best Country Song. Dulcify is a track on the band's fourth album Any Old Love which was mixed and recorded at QUT's Gasworks Studios by Professor Phil Graham, head of QUT's Creative Industries Music and Sound.

"This is an outstanding achievement for Halfway and Ayla Scanlan who is a VC Scholarship recipient in Music and Sound," said Professor Graham.

"QUT lecturers Yanto Browning and Lachlan Goold were also in the spotlight. Yanto produced Quintessential Doll, winner of the Folk Singer/Songwriter category while Lachlan (known professionally as Magoo) produced the winning song by Dubmarine (None the Wiser) in the Urban category."

Professor Graham said a number of other QUT students, staff and alumni were finalists in the QMusic-run awards which were announced at a ceremony held at the Brisbane Powerhouse.

"There were at least six QMA finalists with a connection to QUT and a number of others who were been highly commended in the awards," he said.

"I am pleased to congratulate the winners and also those who were nominated. It's a honour for them at a professional level but it is also an excellent testimony to what we can offer here at QUT's Creative Industries faculty.

"The calibre of our Music and Sound lecturers is world-class and we have excellent facilities for students to enjoy. It's the total package."
