Six QUT students are among 26 new honorary international student ambassadors announced this week by Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk.

The QUT ambassadors are:
•Mr Ahmad Almughallig, Saudi Arabia, Bachelor of Mechatronics Engineering
•Mr Albert Mwangi, Kenya, double degree Master of Business
•Ms Virginia Lao, Macau, double degree Bachelor of Creative Industries and Business
•Ms Leonnie Lee, Malaysia, Bachelor Engineering (Medical)
•Mr Rosenie (RJ) Manese, Philippines, Bachelor in Nursing
•Ms Evi Cecilia, Indonesia, Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film, TV and New Media Production

Cr Quirk said the honorary ambassador appointments were for one year and would provide many unique Brisbane experiences for the students.

"Brisbane attracts about 75,000 enrolments from international students each year and the city welcomes every one of them," Cr Quirk said.

"When US President Barack Obama visited late last year he was full of praise for Brisbane and its facilities, including its educational institutions and especially our universities.

"That's why our Study Brisbane program is of such great importance and regarded as vital to our growth and development."

Part of the ambassadors' duties is to use social media to tell their networks the "Brisbane story" through their eyes, especially in their home countries.

Their role will also see them enjoy many quintessential Brisbane experiences, as well as volunteer at multicultural events and assist with hosting official visiting delegations.

It is anticipated their positive experiences, shared on social media, will generate increased interest among those considering international study.
