QUT and MIT Bootcamps have joined forces again, with the support of Advance Queensland, to host a leadership program early next year – inspiring participants to advance technology and solve challenges in the environment, agriculture and mining sectors.

- Only 90 participants will be selected from a highly-competitive field of applicants
- Up to 40 will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in problem-solution scenario during a three-day trek at Lady Elliot Island on the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef
- Applications close November 1, 2017.
MIT Bootcamps chose Queensland and QUT’s Gardens Point campus for a second year in a row to deliver this unique innovation and entrepreneurship program.
The intense, week-long MIT Bootcamp differs from last year as its focus is on sustainability whereby participants will develop scalable technological innovations.
“Queensland is home to one of the world’s most pristine natural wonders,” Professor Rowena Barrett, Head of School of Management at QUT Business School said.
“The Great Barrier Reef co-exists with our development and use of other natural resources in the mining and agricultural sectors.
“How we use our natural resources are key to economic growth.”
Professor Barrett said next year’s event renews QUT’s commitment to teaching programs that focus on developing entrepreneurial excellence.
“We are looking for innovators, entrepreneurs and change makers to apply to MIT Bootcamps and learn how to bring their ideas for sustainability to fruition,” she said.
“They will interact with others from around the world and collaborate to develop their technologically enabled solutions to challenges in the environment, mining and agricultural sectors in a disciplined and systematic manner.”
Admissions to MIT Bootcamps are conducted on a rolling basis and involve three rounds including, providing background information and resume, a 60-second video or slide deck introducing yourself and finally an interview.
Tuition is $6,000 and applicants are also encouraged to seek sponsorship and/or apply for scholarships.
Candidates shortlisted for scholarships need to show demonstrated impact in their work, strong vision and plan for future impact.
MIT Bootcamps recommends applicants complete four entrepreneurship MOOCs before the start of the program.
QUT offers three full scholarships to Queensland-based boot campers, with one specifically for an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander.
