MIT Bootcamp

Applications open for next MIT Innovation and Entrepreneurship Bootcamp: Some of the best and brightest minds from across the globe can now apply for spots at the prestigious MIT Innovation and Entrepreneurship Bootcamp which will return to QUT next February under the Palaszczuk Government’s Advance Queensland initiative.

She also featured on 4BC Brisbane, 4RO Rockhampton, River FM Ipswich and 2GB Sydney. Other coverage included Car Advice, Sunshine Coast Daily and other News Corp regional Queensland papers.
- Dr Mark King spoke with ABC Radio Brisbane about road safety including seatbelts, new in-vehicle technologies and how we can become better drivers.
- Dr Mark Ryan was quoted in an ABC News story on why the outback is the go-to setting for Australian horror films.

- 7 News Adelaide ran a story featuring Professor Ross Young and Dr Divya Mehta on a new QUT study of Vietnam vets with PTSD. The story was also picked up by Brisbane Times.
- The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age profiled QUT graduate Sarah Moran, CEO of Girl Geek Academy, in their Good Weekend Magazine.
- The Australian talked to QUT’s director of genomics, Professor Matt Brown, about a new personalised genomic medicine initiative involving QUT that will sequence more than 2000 cancer patients a year.
- The Courier-Mail talked to QUT students Emily Wiltshire and Brianna Anderson who will tackle the Kokoda Track this week – Legacy Week – in memory of their fathers who served in the Australian Defence Force.
- Distinguished Professor Stuart Cunningham's piece for The Conversation on how Australia’s screen future is online was reprinted by Mumbrella, Inside Film and others. He also spoke with ABC Brisbane Afternoons and ABC Mid North Coast.
- QUT CEA’s Mark Gustowski featured on ABC’s Lateline in a story about fashion startups.
- Associate Professor Gary Mortimer spoke with 7 News about Coles and Woolworths’ plans to counter a roll-out of new Aldi stores, to 9 News about being overcharged at the checkout, to A Current Affair about butter prices, to The Mercury about Amazon and Tasmania, to SmartCompany about Costco opening online, to Newcastle ABC about the re-emergence of shopping hubs, and to ABC Radio Hobart about supermarkets.
- The Daily Mail, TravelandTourWorld and Real Estate + Tourism ran Dr Kate Letheren, Professor Brett Martin and Dr Hyun Seung Jin, research about personifying of travel destinations.
- The Brisbane Times interviewed fashion student Joeli Kabu for a story on the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Brisbane.
- The Brisbane Times covered the “Robo-cops” public lecture at QUT and quoted criminologist Dr Monique Mann on robots already in use in the USA.
- Dr Nicolas Suzor and Dr Matthew Rimmer spoke to The New Daily about legal action over illegal downloads. Dr Rimmer also discussed pirate websites with Trevor Long and Nick Bennett on Talking Lifestyle Radio.
- Dr Amanda Mergler was interviewed by The New Daily about a report of boys being behind a year academically than classroom peers.
- Axel Bruns spoke to ABC Sydney’s The Business about a decade of hashtags.
- Professor Brian McNair was quoted in an SBS online article about how to spot fake news.
- Rollercoaster expert Malcolm Burt spoke to ABC Radio Brisbane (at 7 mins) about the results of a review into thrill rides.
- Professor Michael Milford and Soh Yeong Roh were interviewed by ABC Brisbane Afternoons on the difference between AI and machine learning.
- Professor Marcus Foth joined a panel of experts on ABC Radio Brisbane talking about living in smart cities.
- Dr Michael Klaehn joined ABC Radio Brisbane  for his weekly segment on social media, Dr Mary Crawford did her segment on state politics, and Dr Edwina Luck joined the weekly panel discussion on retail.
- Dr Rebecca English told the Cairns Post schools mightn’t like parents taking their kids out of class for family holidays, but they couldn’t actually stop it.

- The Sunday Mail mentioned QUT and Dreamworld’s koala breeding program in an article about severe habitat loss on the Gold Coast threatening the local dwindling population.
- Robert King spoke with True Viral News about QUT research showing that stressed teens can respond better to apps than human touch. The story also appeared on the UK’s The Debrief.
- Adjunct Associate Professor John Mickel told the ABC too many negative ads during election campaigns could backfire.
- Optometry Australia covered Emeritus Professor Nathan Efron being awarded the Ruben Medal for outstanding contributions to contact lens research.
- The Australian Journal of Pharmacy reported on a prescriptions toolkit created by QUT’s Lynda Cardiff and developed with three other universities.

- ABC News Sydney interviewed Associate Professor Janet Davies about allergy season.
- The Sunraysia Daily previewed a local growers’ fruit fly workshop involving entomologist Professor Anthony Clarke.
- The Australian ran a piece about the Machination exhibition presented by Cake Industries at the QUT Art Museum.
- Natalie Smith’s Conversation piece on the lack of support by employers to offer part-time jobs, was republished on ABC Online and in the Daily Bulletin.
 - Susan Hetherington joined ABC Radio Capricornia for her regular segment Family Matters talking babies eating habits, when kids stop believing in magic and more.
- Dr Mark Gibbs welcomed the collaboration and launch of the agriculture and infrastructure climate plans in Get Farming and the Goondiwindi Argus.
- Professor Michael Milford wrote a piece for The Conversation on how Terminator 2 in 3D reminds us what we’ve still to learn about AI and robotics.
