QUT Science in Focus Image Competition entries are now closed. The top 10 finalists will be announced on 4 October and winners will be announced at the finalist exhibition and award ceremony on 27 October in The Cube.

The 2017 Science in Focus Image Competition showcases the most original, informative and technically innovative images of important QUT research. Winners will share a prize pool of $2000.

QUT staff and students were invited to enter all kinds of images, including (but not limited to) photographs, light and electron microscopy, hand-drawn and digital illustrations, machine outputs and scans, x-ray patterns or structures, infographics, graphs and 3D scans.

Entrants will be displayed on the big screen at a finalist exhibition and award ceremony in The Cube at QUT Gardens Point on Friday 27 October. Winners will be revealed at the event, including the people’s choice award which is decided via an online public vote.

$2000 in prizes up for grabs

  • First prize: $1200
  • Second prize: $500
  • People’s choice award: $250
  • Bonus prize: Post entries to Instagram, Twitter and/or Facebook with the hashtags #ScienceinFocus17 and #IFE_QUT for the chance to win a $50 gift voucher. Every post equals one chance to win!

Judging criteria
Entries will be judged on originality, creativity, technical proficiency, visual impact and informational content. Judges are particularly interested in seeing images that demonstrate or depict the impact of QUT research. View the 2017 competition guidelines for full details.
