International entrepreneurs at QUT for MIT Global Entrepreneurship Bootcamp: The MIT Global Entrepreneurship Bootcamp is underway at QUT, offering some of the world’s brightest entrepreneurial thinkers the opportunity to transform their innovative ideas into burgeoning businesses.
Top Brisbane innovators picked for MIT Bootcamp scholarships: A Brisbane innovator determined to break down the digital divide between cities and remote regions is the first to receive an Indigenous scholarship to the prestigious MIT Global Entrepreneurship Bootcamp at QUT.

QUT’s Prof Nunzio Motta is new ‘Knight of the Italian Star’: QUT physicist Professor Nunzio Motta (pictured) has been awarded the Order of the Star of Italy and the title of “Knight of the Italian Star” by the Italian Consul during an Italian Scientists Meeting in Brisbane.
President of Law Alumni QUT awarded Fulbright Scholarship: Judge Paul Howard, President of the Law Alumni QUT Chapter, will use his Fulbright Scholarship to research access to justice and the resourcing of federal trial courts spread across regional Australia.

- QUT’s involvement in the World Science Festival Brisbane (WSFB) received national coverage, with Nicole Robinson's health robot chatting to the Weekend Today hosts and featuring on ScienceAlert’s Facebook page, while Baxter was shown in an ABC TV promo. Gizmodo reported on Dr Matthew Dunbabin’s COTSbot’s appearance at WSFB, Fairfax reported on the involvement of Associate Professors Mia Woodruff and Michael Milford and Quest interviewed QUT student Gretchen Bos for its promo story of the WSFB.
- Students journalist Natalie O’Brien spoke to Brett Lewis about his live reef display for an ABC Online story, while Annie Pullar covered the Automated Autos talk which involved Professors Belinda Bennett and Jonathan Roberts. Melissa Mackay reported on QUT alumnus Steve Liddle’s explosive science show at the WSFB.
- QUT student journalists also published video pieces to YouTube and the WSFB website, and articles on ABC Online including the health benefits of colouring in, how music can influence taste, Street Science, Australia’s energy security, World Water Day, the Queensland Museum taxidermy display, design activities for kids, reef twilight zones, turtle hatching, STEM careers , coral bleaching, water issues, and Professor Ian Frazer.
- QUT posted live to Facebook from the WSFB. For more videos of OUT Street Science activities visit QUT’s Facebook page.
- Distinguished Professor Stuart Cunningham’s comments about the Federal Government’s National Science Statement were reported on via SCIMEX, The Daily Bulletin, GizModo and The Conversation. Professor Peter Andrews also commented.
- Professor Cunningham also talked to the Sydney Morning Herald about changing TV habits and why live sport is becoming more important to traditional television.
- QUT’s hosting of the MIT Global Entrepreneurship Bootcamp was in The Courier-Mail’s City Beat column.
- Professor Selena Bartlett talked to ABC Radio’s AM about how childhood trauma affects the brain.
- Associate Professor Gary Mortimer was part of a panel on Channel 7’s Weekend Sunrise on superstores and was quoted in a Smart Company Australia article on Amazon’s arrive in Australia.
- Fairfax media including Brisbane Times, Nursing Review, Aged Cared Insite, Campus Morning Mail and the UK’s Medical Xpress reported on Professor Gerry FitzGerald’s new book on Disaster Health Management.
- Phil Brown from The Courier-Mail’s Qweekend visited Dame Quentin Bryce in her office at QUT’s Gardens Point campus to talk about the people who wrote to her when she was governor-general of Australia.
- Dr Claire Ferguson spoke to News.com.au about infanticide killings for a story that ran across the News Corp network and was republished by Kidspot.
- Dr Kate Letheren and Dr Charmaine Glavas wrote about how chatbots will change direct to consumer advertising for The Conversation. The piece was republished by Mumbrella.
- A study from researchers including Professor Stuart Parsons on New Zealand’s kea parrot’s laugh was covered by The Australian and New Scientist.
- John Willsteed (pictured) was interviewed on ABC Radio Brisbane on Saturday about music nostalgia and put out a call for old concert posters and tickets from 1975 to 1999.
- The Physics World blog liked a paper on the ‘Quantum Theory of Humour’ co-authored by QUT’s Dr Kirsty Kitto.
- The Western Times ran a pre-Easter road safety story that quoted Dr Chris Watling on the dangers of driving when tired.
- 7 News reported on QUT fashion designers taking part in a program to establish a brand and learn how to survive in the industry.
- The Koori Mail ran a story on QUT engineering student Josh Loyd being named one of Australia's top 100 future leaders.
- Blue Curtains Brisbane reviewed Anna Karenina, which featured QUT acting students.
- Dr Lucy Reading told The Guardian Australia about her research to study Tamborine Mountain’s aquifers and the impact of water extraction.
- Professor Myles McGregor-Lowndes wrote a piece for The Conversation urging charity boards to stamp out wrongdoing that damages trust.
- Research from The Australian Centre for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies was referenced in a piece in Fundraising and Philanthropy Australasia Magazine.
- The QUT Kelvin Grove bush stone curlew hypnotised by its own reflection continued to generate coverage, in China’s Shenzhen Daily and a blog on the Huffington Post UK.
- A joint Cancer Council Queensland and QUT study examining medical decisions by and for people with terminal illnesses was reported by regional media including Warwick Daily News.
- The Toowoomba Chronicle reported corset-maker Lorraine White had been accepted in the QUT Creative Enterprise Australia 2017 Fashion Accelerator Program.
- Research from Associate Professor Scott Read on outdoor light and short-sightedness in children was mentioned by Motherpedia.
- Australian Ageing Agenda reported a study from QUT and the University of Adelaide found the lack of a clear national policy for retirement villages could hinder the sector.
- The appointment of police officer in residence Inspector Christopher Emzin to the School of Justice was covered by Campus Morning Mail.
- Associate Professor Nicolas Suzor explained how copyright reform could make more books available for blind people in a piece for The Conversation. It was republished by Australasian Science.
- QUT Creative Enterprise Australia’s Anna Rooke spoke to Australian Anthill about the great ideas showcased at QUT CEA’s Creative Tech Startup Weekend.
- Dr Nicolas Pontes wrote a piece for Inside Retail about whether companies are using ‘sales’ too much.
- Stock Journal reported Professor Ian O’Hara will present at the Next Gen cane conference.
- Associate Professor Mark Lauchs spoke to ABC Radio about the illegal tobacco industry.
- ABC Radio Canberra asked Professor Marilyn Campbell about how children respond to events like the terror attack on London.
