The public CreateX all-ages festival at QUT's Creative Industries Precinct this Sunday (August 28) will feature the latest immersive 3-D experiences, shine a light on the mystery of the creative process through 60 interactive events (performances, talks and workshops), and culminate in a free concert featuring alumni such as Kate Miller-Heidke, Naomi Price, Carita Farrer Spencer, DeepBlue and Michelle Ryan.

Families, students, industry professionals and anyone else interested in creativity and technology are invited to come along and immerse themselves in the day.

CreateX is Queensland’s first technology-infused festival of creativity and will publicly launch the next exciting phase of QUT’s Creative Industries Precinct, incorporating design, performance, fashion, music,  interactive and visual media.

  • Dead Puppet Society Workshop
  • Immersive interactive games
  • Grow your own clothing using fermented kombucha curds (‘vegan leather’)
  • Build your own holograms
  • Virtual reality, films & augmented reality
  • Robots and performances
  • Michelle Xen installation incorporating light, sound, video and sculpture
  • John Willsteed on Brisbane’s punk music history
  • Demonstrations, Installations, Tours, Workshops
  • Talks & panels
  • Music
  • Fashion parades

A world-first, room-sized mash up of VR, AR, game engine and multi-touch technologies - dubbed Museum of Colliding Dimensions - will also provide an incredible, immersive experience on an alien world and make visitors feel like their inside a video game.

And Garden of Miniscule Delights will feature an interactive dance performance involving robots, humans and the public, where the performers react and respond to the public’s presence in the room. 

The QUT Creative Industries Precinct expansion is an $88 million state-of-the-art facility and digital showcase; the most sophisticated, technically-savvy creative space in Australia. 

CreateX is a free event with a fee for some workshops. The festival starts at 10am this Sunday, August 28, at the Creative Industries Precinct on the corner of Musk Ave and Kelvin Grove Rd, Kelvin Grove, with the finale concert from 6pm to 7pm.
