The QUT Science in Focus Image Competition has been launched to celebrate the most original, informative and technically innovative images that tell the stories behind important QUT research.

Science in Focus has evolved from the popular QUT Nikon Small World Competition which awarded QUT’s finest light microscopy images in 2014 and 2015. All kinds of images can be entered in Science in Focus, including (but not limited to) photographs, light and electron microscopy, hand-drawn and digital illustrations, machine outputs and scans, x-rays, infographics, graphs and 3D images.

The competition is also open to Queensland high school students (years 10 – 12), who are invited to submit eye catching images that capture how STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology and Maths) impacts our world. Read more about high school entry.

For QUT staff and students, first place will receive a $1,000 cash prize, second place $250 and the people’s choice $250. The winners of the Queensland high school categories will receive a $500 scientific prize pack for their school, second place a $250 prize pack and third place a $150 prize pack.

Entries will be judged on originality, creativity, technical proficiency, visual impact and informational content. The judges are particularly interested in seeing images that demonstrate or depict the impact of QUT research. View the competition entry guidelines.

Shortlisted entries will be announced mid-October and displayed on The Cube at a finalist exhibition event on Friday 28 October. Winners will be revealed at the event, including the people’s choice award which is decided via an online public vote.

Entries close 5pm, 16 September, 2016. ENTER NOW
