QUT's Professor Carol Dickenson has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2016 Australia Day Honours in recognition of her significant service to tertiary education as a senior administrator, and to professional academic standards and development.

Professor Dickenson has been the university's Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) since 2012 - an appointment which followed a decade serving as QUT's Registrar.

As the highly-regarded Registrar, she was responsible for administrative functions for 42,000 students and more than 4000 staff. Her ability to solve complex problems and form cohesive and effective teams was demonstrated in her roles as leader of QUT's Crisis Management Team during the January 2011 floods, which affected QUT's riverside campus and many of its key operations.

Her career with QUT began back in 1989 as a lecturer in the School of Management and has included being the Director of Human Resources from 1997 to 2002.

QUT Council member Professor Mary O'Kane, who is the New South Wales Chief Scientist, was also made a companion of the Order of Australia in this year's honours for eminent service to her field.
