Staff from the Faculty of Law and Queensland Police Service (QPS) joined forces to coordinate the recent Coffee with a Cop event.
Coffee with a Cop provides access and opportunity for QUT staff and students to engage in distraction-free informal conversations with Brisbane's local police officers over coffee.
“The Coffee with a Cop events have been very popular in the suburbs but QUT's initiative in bringing the event on campus has greatly expanded the scope,” said Visiting Associate and Police Inspector Christopher Emzin.
“It gives the local police a fantastic opportunity to engage with the large community who study and work at Gardens Point campus. The police were able to provide information regarding policing issues and policing careers in a casual and friendly atmosphere,” he said.
As one of the Faculty’s valued partners, QPS officers mentor numerous justice students undertaking Work Integrated Learning (WIL) placements each year, with many gaining employment with the Service after graduation.
“It is always a pleasure to engage with such enthusiastic students of QUT Faculty of Law, and continue to strengthen these relationships within our community,” said Acting Sergeant Shona Fahrenhorst.
“Today’s event was just another fine example of this, and the Queensland Police Service are passionate about helping to equip our work force for the future.”
The event not only catered for aspiring law enforcers, but also to QUT staff, many of whom raised concerns, asked questions or simply attended simply to get to know their local officers.
Keep an eye on the Faculty’s events page for information on the next Coffee with a Cop and other upcoming events.
