The inaugural #QUTGivingDay surpassed expectations, raising over $1.6 million in 24 hours with more than $31,500 going to the QUT Faculty of Law Founders’ Scholarship Fund.

More than 1,500 donors supported QUT’s philanthropic projects which is triple the original target of 500 donors. The QUT Faculty of Law Founders’ Scholarship Fund was among the most donated projects, achieving 100 donors and the equivalent monetary value of over three full scholarships.

Established in 1997 and through the continued generous support of alumni, staff and the legal community, the QUT Faculty of Law Founders' Scholarship Fund provides financial support through scholarships to first-year law students experiencing financial hardship. Since the first scholarships were awarded in 2000, 79 students have received financial assistance and one-on-one support, many of whom have already gone on to graduate and establish highly successful professional careers.

The Faculty would like to thank everyone who gave to the Fund on Giving Day, particularly our major donors Luke Mountford, Mal Varitimos QC, Professor John Humphrey, and Darryl McDonough.

Luke Mountford, Chair of the Law Founders' Scholarship Fund Committee and Partner at HopgoodGanim, and Mal Varitimos QC, barrister, each pledged a full scholarship worth $10,000. Professor John Humphrey, Executive Dean of the QUT Faculty of Law, and Darryl McDonough, former Chief Executive Partner and Chairman of the Board of Clayton Utz, were also major donors.

“I would like to thank each person who supported the Fund on Giving Day and highlight the impact that their donations will have on the lives of our students. The professional and financial support offered by the Scholarships has enabled 28 recipients to become successful QUT Law graduates to date, and to secure work in both government and private roles,” said Professor Humphrey.
