Climate and weather
Brisbane has a subtropical climate with warm summers and mild winters. We have 261 days of sunshine a year on average.
Temperatures range from a high of 35 degrees Celsius in summer to a low of 12 degrees Celsius in winter.
The rainy season is from December to March, with an average of 140mm (5.5 inches) of rainfall each month.
Food and dining
Supermarkets in Brisbane have the spices, vegetables and other ingredients you need to cook for yourself. Many supermarkets also sell Halal meat and other products, and many suburbs of Brisbane have Asian, Indian or Middle Eastern shops that sell specialty imported products. Supermarkets are open 7 days a week. Some suburbs also have farmers' markets on weekends where you can by local produce.
If you want to eat at a restaurant, there are many different cuisines available in Brisbane. Food is diverse and generally not expensive.
Transport: getting to university
You can travel to and from our campuses using:
- ferries and the CityCat.
All public transport in South-East Queensland is run by Translink. The Translink website has detailed information about transport types, timetables and fares, and a journey planner.
Full-time students with student ID cards get a cheaper fare on all public transport.
Driving your car
Gardens Point and Kelvin Grove campuses have parking options, but available car parks are limited, and parking can be expensive.
There are dedicated bikeways to campus, and secure bike racks and compounds are available for storing your bike. There are showers on both campuses for cyclists.
Night shuttle bus
A night shuttle bus runs at Gardens Point and Kelvin Grove during semester, helping you to safely travel to car parks and major public transport hubs after hours.
Travelling between campuses
We operate a free shuttle bus between Gardens Point and Kelvin Grove. The shuttle bus runs all year except weekends, public holidays and the time between Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
