There are several avenues for financial and legal help at QUT.
Coping with limited financial resources is a common problem faced by students. We have support services to help you with transferring money, balancing your finances, and helping you with any money problems you are having.
As part of our counselling service, you can get financial advice from a welfare officer. They can help you with:
Our welfare support is professional, confidential and free to access. You can make an appointment to speak to a welfare officer at any campus.
Preparing a budget will help you to fund your regular and ongoing expenses. It can also allow you to save for unexpected items and large bills by setting up an emergency fund.

Our Welfare Officers can also help you create a budget. We also hold regular Money Smart @ Uni workshops.
The QUT Guild runs an extensive food bank service for students who find themselves running out of money. They offer fresh fruit and vegetables, bread and packaged food.
Textbooks can be a major expense during your degree. The QUT Guild Second Hand Bookshop buys and sells used textbooks for QUT courses. This means that you can buy your textbooks at the start of each semester and, if you don't want to keep them, sell them again at the end of semester. Second hand textbooks sell out quickly, so make sure you get in early.
The QUT Guild Second Hand Bookshop also offers discounted lab coat and safety glasses hire, and discounted faxing.
If you're a full-time student, and your ID card has the Queensland Rail logo, you can buy concession tickets on public transport. Concession tickets are half the price of adult tickets.
A Go Card gives you a further discount on public transport. You can use your Go Card on buses, trains, and ferries and City Cats.

If you are experiencing these difficulties, you can apply for a loan of up to $2,000. This loan is interest free. You can apply for a SFAS loan from the first day of orientation in your first semester of study, if necessary.
