The QUT Science in Focus Competition is back again, showcasing the most beautiful, unexpected and complex images of important QUT scientific research.

2020 Science in Focus prizes

QUT students and staff can share in a prize pool of $2,750. The QUT Centre for Materials Science prize is a new category for 2020, specifically designed for entries depicting materials science.

  • First prize: $1000
  • Second prize: $500
  • Highly commended award: $250
  • QUT Centre for Materials Science prize: $750
  • People’s choice award: $250

Judging criteria

Entries will be judged on originality, creativity, technical proficiency, visual impact and informational content. Judges are particularly interested in seeing images and video that demonstrate or depict the impact of QUT research. 

Entering is easy

  • Capture visually striking, unexpected and/or inspiring images or video of QUT research.
  • Go online and submit up to three high-resolution image or video files, include the title, a brief description and a summary of the importance and/or impact of the research it relates to.

Entries close 18 September, and finalists will be notified via email.

The top ten finalists will go to the public vote, with the winner awarded $250.

Winners will be revealed and prizes awarded in mid-October.

See science on the Sphere

For the first time, images from our finalist galleries will be displayed on The Sphere at Kelvin Grove allowing viewers to see these beautiful images in a new dimension. Drop in and be inspired by the diverse and beautiful entries submitted by QUT staff and students. The images are on display from 8am - 10am and 4pm - 6pm daily.
