Research centres and programs

The Institute for Future Environments is associated with a number of research centres and research programs.

Centres

Australia-China Centre for Air Quality Science and Management (ACC AQSM)

This new collaborative research centre will develop new technologies and techniques to better monitor, prevent and mitigate air pollution, and participate in national and international policy discussions. Read our article on how top Australian and Chinese experts will research the global problem of air pollution, with a focus on the causes and effects on both human health and the environment.

Centre for Tropical Crops and Biocommodities (CTCB)

We combine a unique mix of international expertise in plant biotechnology, process engineering, industrial chemistry and commercialisation. Our product research and development pipeline leads from gene discovery and genetic manipulation through to field demonstrations and pilot plant scale production.

Programs

Greenhouse gas research program

This program studies how greenhouse gas emissions from agricultural soils are influenced by soil conditions, farm management practices and the climate. We coordinate the National Agricultural Nitrous Oxide Research Program (2012–2015) to develop strategies and practices for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from agricultural soils.

Groundwater systems research program

This program studies groundwater systems associated with Queensland's sedimentary basins. We collaborate with public and private sector partners, using a QUT-developed software package to produce 3D visualisations of geological and hydrological systems.
