Institute for Future

Centre for Clean Energy Technologies and Practices

The Centre for Clean Energy Technologies and Practices is a new research centre hosted by the Institute for Future Environments that builds on QUT’s extensive expertise in renewable energy research and innovation.
We take important breakthroughs in areas such as solar and hydrogen power, biofuels, batteries and energy efficiency from the lab to the factory.
The Centre collaborates with national and international partners to integrate these technologies into the renewable energy industry, helping Australia develop this crucial sector and bring innovative clean energy solutions to consumers at scales from households to networks.

Spanning discipline boundaries to achieve high-impact research outcomes, the Centre brings together researchers from across QUT, including the Science and Engineering, Law, and Health faculties and the QUT Business School.

Our Research

Our strengths in renewable energy research mean the Centre is uniquely placed to make a significant contribution to a clean, secure and affordable energy future.

Green hydrogen

We’re building Australia’s only hybrid pilot plant to generate hydrogen from non-potable water with solar power.

Battery storage

We have Australia’s only lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility at our Banyo Pilot Plant.

Cutting-edge solar

We’ve developed a new material that could lead to cheaper, more efficient solar panels.
