Position: Principal Technologist (Biorefining)
What are you working on at the moment?
I am working on several biomass pretreatment projects at the Mackay Renewable Biocommodities Pilot Plant (MRBPP), a facility for pilot-scale research, demonstration and development of renewable biofuels and green chemicals technologies. The MRBPP team design and carry out experiments and research trials in consultation with researchers and clients. This includes operation of the pilot plant’s equipment in supporting the delivery of outcomes for various biorefining research projects
Why is your work important?
Our work at the pilot plant is important because it bridges the gap between laboratory research and commercial investment. We can produce samples of new biomass-derived products for further analysis and verify prototype manufacturing processes designs in a pilot scale process facility. It helps reduce investment risk before investors commit to build a large biorefinery plant.
What excites or inspires you about your field?
I enjoy participating in technology development that leads to the commercialisation of biorefining products. It is exciting to see more biofuels, green chemicals and other bioproducts produced from renewable biomass include agricultural wastes.
