Position: Technologist/Manager, Central Analytical Research Facility

Expertise: Geochemistry, Petrology, Asbestos

What are you working on at the moment?
I work in laboratories to identify asbestos in samples provided by mining and resources companies.

Why is your work important?
Asbestos is lethal and naturally present in the ground of some operational mining sites. My work is essential to help ensure workers and the surrounding community are not exposed to asbestos.

What excites or inspires you about your field?
It's a very unique and diverse field and I enjoy making a positive contribution by helping prevent human exposure to a lethal substance.

What are your hopes for the future?
I hope that one day we can identify all natural occurrences of asbestos in the workplace and improve safety standards.
