Mentor our students

Our Career Mentor Scheme provides opportunity for industry professionals to invest in tomorrow’s real-world professionals. The scheme facilitates a relationship between student (mentee) and mentor to assist the student’s transition from study into the workforce.

Once you become a part of the Career Mentor Scheme, you will be matched with a student who will become your 'mentee' for the duration of the academic year (typically March to October). Mentors and students are encouraged to make contact for an hour per fortnight.

Become a mentor

Mentor

Mentors should typically have at least five years experience in their chosen profession. This mentor role usually runs from March through to October. This role can require mentors and students to meet once a fortnight either face-to-face catch-ups, emails or phone calls.

Early career mentor

Early career mentors are for professionals with one to five years experience in their chosen profession. You will mentor students in their second year as a guide for what happens next when they graduate from university. This role takes place in the first semester each year with a networking event held mid-year. This role can require mentors and students to meet once a fortnight either face-to-face catch-ups, emails or phone calls.

  • act as a source of information and give insight into the occupational field
  • provide guidance for career development or strategies for achieving professional goals
  • assist with personal goal setting and planning
  • teach specific skills including job seeking strategies and résumé writing
  • listen with an open mind, challenging and encouraging the exploration of ideas
  • encourage professional behaviour
  • provide feedback on observed performance.
