A career in pharmacy
Being a pharmacist isn't simply about dispensing prescriptions - it's an amazing, fulfilling career with a wealth of diverse job options available upon graduation. There is a huge demand for pharmacists at the moment, so it's a smart move to study pharmacy.
The future of pharmacy
'Pharmacy has always been a place that's been at the forefront of technology and healthcare. Some of the first utilisation of computers, the first utilisation of technology, and how that might interface with patient care, has happened in pharmacy.'
Professor Lisa Nissen
Get a head start
'I put QUT as my first preference because they offered the best structured pharmacy degree with the ability to complete an honours component. There are purpose built pharmacy practice rooms complete with a mock dispensary and medications, giving students a head start in the workplace. Throughout the course you learn how to manipulate and compound a variety of products in the state-of-the-art labs - a childhood potion maker's dream. There is also genuine support from the academics. They are committed to using their knowledge and experience to develop you into the best pharmacist you can be be.'
Robin Parr
Graduate success
'I graduated just over five years ago and now I manage a large Terry White Chemist. Pharmacy is an evolving profession and our scope of practice is constantly changing. It's a rewarding and challenging career and I absolutely love it.'

Research that makes a difference
During disasters our health systems become overburdened and unbalanced, with an increase in patients but a reduced amount of available healthcare professionals. With appropriate training, pharmacists have the potential to make a huge contribution during these stressful times. Libby McCourt's research aimed to develop recommendations on how we can enhance the preparedness of pharmacists to respond to disasters in their local communities. Libby's presentation was the winner of the QUT Three Minute Thesis (3MT) award in 2017.
