Why choose this course?

Genomics is a rapidly evolving field, critical to cutting-edge health care and personalised medicine. We offer the only Graduate Certificate in Diagnostic Genomics in Australasia.

This course is ideal for healthcare professionals who are looking to improve their knowledge of this growing discipline and its applications in health care. It offers a short, focused program of study in the core areas of diagnostic genetics, genetic technologies, disease pathogenesis and human genetics. Similarly, it is an ideal avenue for genetic scientists who are already qualified but are keen to stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and applications.

You will be taught by leading researchers from the Genomics Research Centre, a research facility that focuses on the identification of genes involved in common human disorders and the translation of this research into new diagnostics and therapeutics.

Careers and outcomes

This course equips healthcare physicians with the knowledge to confidently explain genetic testing to patients, select optimal genetic tests and explain results. This level of genetic expertise would be beneficial as it is being increasingly employed in different departments.

Genetics scientists completing this graduate certificate will be increasingly confident in the latest technologies, making them more valuable employees and attractive candidates to other laboratories.

Course articulation

This course fully articulates with the Graduate Diploma in Diagnostic Genomics and the Master of Diagnostic Genomics. The masters program prepares graduates to apply for professional accreditation as a diagnostic genomic scientist.
