On Saturday 7th September, members from QUT Athletics and QUT Running sport clubs took over the South Bank Parkrun in Brisbane.
Eighteen student members volunteered their time early on a windy Saturday morning to assist in this international known, community event.
The volunteers receive a briefing and assistance from the South Bank Parkrun core volunteer team (Allen Bromley, Ben Leaver, Sharon Leaver and Sylvia Bromley) before all the 510 participants arrived.
There were several students and staff that take part in the 5km run on the day also. QUT Running Club members - Jayden Dows, ran a extraordinary time of 19:31, achieving 10th position overall. With Isuru Dharmasiri run a time of 21:09, coming in as the 23rd male across the line.
Special appearances on the day included parkrun CEO Tim Oberg who returned to Brisbane for the event. As well as Liesel Jones, former Olympic Swimmer, taking part in her very first parkrun.
