The Entrepreneurs in Residence (EIR) and mentors at QUT Entrepreneurship support QUT students, staff and community that are interested in developing entrepreneurial skills. This week, we hear from EIR Aaron Birkby.

About Aaron

Aaron is a serial entrepreneur with over 20 years of startup and business experience, developing award-winning software and IoT products across numerous industries including ICT, tourism, hospitality, and mining. He is also an active startup community leader, having lead 17 missions to Silicon Valley, London, Berlin and Israel, and is the co-founder of Peak Persona, which helps individuals build resilience, grit and the soft-skills necessary to become advanced, high-growth business leaders.

What is your role?

I am an Entrepreneur In Residence at QUT which means I am available to mentor and support anyone from the QUT community who is working on bringing a new idea to life or growing an existing venture. I also facilitate a number of our entrepreneurship programs.

What QUT Entrepreneurship programs have you been involved in?

I'm in the lucky position to have co-designed and delivered the Spark program, which is an introduction to entrepreneurship, and the upcoming Ignite program, focussed on business models. I've also facilitated a number of entrepreneurship workshops for QUT Business Advantage, mechatronics subjects, and the Faculty of Law.

What programs are coming up?

The upcoming program I'm most excited about is Ignite, which is a 3 day intensive program aimed at individuals or teams who have a taken an idea, concept or prototype through some early testing and who are now ready to turn their work into a viable business. In the program we cover business models in detail, as well as how to determine your market position, pricing, and go-to-market strategy. The 3 days run entirely online from 29 September and is open to anyone with a validated concept to apply.

QUT Entrepreneurship identifies and solves commercial and social problems. Our programs, courses, mentoring and events are designed to teach skills and processes, develop capabilities, and foster a community within QUT and the entrepreneurial ecosystem. To find out more about Ignite, visit here
