With her daughter and parents by her side, Erin Featherstone closed a four-year chapter of her life, graduating from QUT with a Bachelor of Social Work in July last year.
As a hearing-impaired, single mother from Kippa-Ring, the support of her peers and lecturers, as well as her family and friends, was vital to Erin’s success in helping her get to where she is today.
Her daughter Lavina proudly told QUT staff, “We’re here to celebrate my mum!”
Erin is grateful to the thousands of donors to the Learning Potential Fund, whose generosity changed her life forever.
"Without a Learning Potential Fund scholarship, I wouldn’t have the gift of hearing that I do right now. I wouldn’t have a laptop to study from at home and I wouldn’t have been able to afford to support my daughter commencing her own education journey.”
Erin currently works as an Intake Clinician at headspace, an Australian non-profit organisation that provides vital, early intervention mental health services to young people. She is already changing lives for the better through her work – something that may not have been possible without access to education.
