Multi award-winning playwright, actor and QUT alumnus Margi Brown Ash will share her talent in a Brisbane first, performing two of her shows back to back.
“It is a unique and thrilling opportunity to share this double bill with you, two exciting stories that complement each other, about characters who refuse to accept the status quo,” Margi said.
The acclaimed He Dreamed a Train and award-winning Eve will make up the rare double bill performance that will be hosted exclusively for Brisbane audiences.
Eve is part memoir, part fiction, part homage to the sacrifice of the artist. It has been described by Australian Stage as “a sublime, evocative, rich, disturbing and tightly woven piece that will leave you intellectually reeling and profoundly inspired”.
He Dreamed a Train is a deeply personal story combining stunning digital projection and beautiful storytelling to tell the tale of a sister and her brother as they face his premature death.
Margi graduated from QUT with a Master of Counselling in 2006, and then again with a Master of Arts in 2010. She has also been a valued academic at QUT, hosting lectures in both the Creative Industries Faculty and the School of Psychology and Counselling.
“I loved studying at QUT, a rigorous yet practical institution” Margi said.
“The Drama and Acting Departments continue to provide our theatre industry with well trained and inspiring artists and I always look forward to working with them."
The double bill hosts other talented QUT alumni, Dr Leah Mercer (Doctor of Philosophy, 2009) and Dr Ben Knapton (Master of Arts 2008; Doctor of Philosophy 2014) as directors and co-devisers of Eve and He Dreamed a Train respectively.
Leah completed a practice-based PhD in Performance at QUT and believes that her relationship with QUT's “diverse staff and awesome facilities” continues to ground her work.
“I went to QUT to focus on creative practice and the opportunity to collaborate with undergrads, my fellow postgrads and industry professionals was exactly what I was looking for.” Leah said.
When Ben began his practice-led Masters and PhD at QUT, he connected with international artists at the forefront of their fields, many of whom he still collaborates with today.
“The skills I developed have allowed me to work in over 30 countries with some of the most interesting people I know." Ben said.
