The opening night of Queensland Theatre’s world premiere, The Holidays showcased the works of QUT Drama staff, Dr David Megarrity and many QUT alumni. David’s play won the Queensland Premier’s Drama Award 2018-19 and was produced with an all-Queensland cast and creative team.
Indeed, The Holidays design team are all QUT alumni and versatile theatre-makers who create their own work. The immersive world of The Holidays production wove together music, projection, live feed, lighting and stills photography, all innovations in design that called on the practical, technical, and collaborative skills developed during their time at QUT. Behind the scenes of The Holidays, QUT Drama students are being mentored in experiences essential for their creative careers.
David is also responsible for the design and part delivery of the Bachelor of Fine Arts (Drama) practice units, guaranteeing students explore many roles onstage and behind the scenes while creating their own productions. This year students were also taught by respected industry theatre-makers Lucas Stibbard, Kathryn Marquet and The Holidays projection designer Nathan Sibthorpe.
QUT Drama, Acting and Technical Production would like to acknowledge and honour the skill, passion and experience of our staff and alumni who brought The Holidays to life and in particular, Dr David Megarrity.
