The Jane Pitman Design Scholarship aims to provide scholarship opportunities for aspiring and talented interior design students to realise their goals in interior design.
This year’s Jane Pitman scholarship was awarded to QUT student Natalia Payer.
This scholarship was established by Mr Dennis Pitman in memory of his late wife and designer, Jane Pitman who was always passionate about the design industry and wished for a legacy that enables others to enjoy the passion she had.
Natalia Payer feels extremely grateful to have received this scholarship and is humbly honoured.
“The funds will support me through the rest of my design degree and possibly even future study in the design field,” she said.
With her current major in Interior Architecture, Natalia is also studying a minor in Scenography. She strives for a career in set and stage design in the future and has goals of being involved in theatre opportunities in Queensland Theatre and gain practical experience parallel to her degree.
“With financial security, I can focus all of my energy on my studies. It’s opened up a new world of possibilities where I can afford to pursue the avenues I’m interested in, but more than that it has given me the self-belief to achieve this,” she said.
“Studying in a creative field is no easy feat as there’s no right or wrong and projects can indefinitely be improved or expanded upon. I’m a bit of a perfectionist so it’s difficult to feel accomplished or talented enough to be in this field sometimes.”
Natalia is inspired by how design can help to make the world a better place and bring people together.
“As a designer, I want to create well-considered, meaningful spaces that have multiple purposes and make an impact,” Natalia said.
“Being selected for this Scholarship has helped me feel as though I am creative enough to pursue the path I’ve chosen, and I will do my absolute best to remember this and use it to push through any insecurity I feel about my work in future.”
After graduation, Natalia aims to be able to expand her knowledge globally and one day have her name on a program of a West End musical.
