Associate Professor Lindy Osborne Burton is an expert in designing complex public and institutional buildings with a portfolio of over 70 projects, including notable works like the Princess Alexandra Hospital Redevelopment and the Southbank Education and Training Precinct. After 18 years in practice and winning 15 design awards, Lindy shifted to a full-time academic career and now serves as the Academic Board Director of the Board of Architects of Queensland.

The course is a two-year Master of Architecture.
The Master of Architecture builds upon your undergraduate architectural knowledge, providing you with advanced understanding in architectural design and research, contextual studies, technology and science, and studies for professional practice.
Throughout your course, you’ll learn from practicing architects and leading researchers with strong local and international industry connections.
Our curriculum employs a strong focus on sustainable systems and the application of advanced digital design tools to address sustainability at every stage of the architectural process.
Upon graduating, you’ll meet the academic requirements for membership of the Australian Institute of Architects. Graduates who have also completed two years of practical architectural experience, of which at least one year is postgraduate architectural experience, will be eligible to undertake the Architectural Practice Examination, enabling you to be eligible for registration with any Board of Architects in Australia.
Careers and outcomes
Graduates of the Master of Architecture meet the academic requirements for membership of the Australian Institute of Architects. Graduates who have also completed two years of practical architectural experience, of which at least one year is postgraduate architectural experience, will be eligible to undertake the Architectural Practice Examination, which will enable the graduate, if successful, to be eligible for registration with any Board of Architects in Australia.

To meet the course requirements for this course, you must complete a total of 192 credit points, made up of:
- four design studio units (24 credit points each)

- A recognised Australian 3-year architecture bachelor degree with a GPA of 4.5 (or equivalent); or
- A recognised Australian 3-year architecture bachelor degree plus six months full-time (or equivalent) relevant Australian professional experience under the supervision of a registered architect; or
- A recognised overseas three-year architecture bachelor degree with a GPA of 4.5 (or equivalent) plus an approved design portfolio; or
- Any completed degree plus passed the entire first year of a recognised Australian 3-year Master of Architecture (or equivalent) with a GPA of 4.5 (or equivalent).

Current QUT Architecture graduands from a design single or double degree with a GPA of 4.5 or better will automatically receive an offer within three weeks of course completion.

- Completed Bachelor of Design (Honours) (Architectural Studies) or the 4-year Bachelor of Design (Architectural Studies) at QUT; or
- A recognised Australian 3-year architecture bachelor degree plus passed (at least) the entire first year of a recognised Australian 2-year Master of Architecture (or equivalent); or
- A recognised overseas 3-year architecture bachelor degree plus passed at least one year full-time (or equivalent) of recognised postgraduate architecture studies plus an approved design portfolio; or
- Any completed degree plus passed at least the entire first two years of a recognised Australian 3-year Master of Architecture (or equivalent).

Current QUT Architectural Studies graduands from a design honours degree will automatically receive an offer within three weeks of course completion.

Portfolio requirement
If you are applying on the basis of overseas study you must submit the following with your application:
- Course information, including course overview and subject syllabus in English for your prior architecture studies.
- A digital portfolio, which must include:
- A minimum of 4 projects. Ensure your architectural design abilities are well represented in the portfolio.
- Fully documented design projects with a complete set of plans, sections, elevations and perspectives (photos of models optional), for each project included.
- Samples of your university design assignments (architectural design projects) from the highest year levels of design studio you have completed. The intent of the portfolio is to illustrate your highest level of skill development during your previous studies.
Your portfolio must be in English and submitted in digital form (preferably PDF) with your application.
