Your experience in real industry settings begins during second semester of your first year and continues with clinical placement experience every semester thereafter.
All students are scheduled for 840 hours of clinical practice with a minimum of 800 hours required for registration. Double degrees
Combine two bachelor degrees into a single course of study. A double degree allows you to specialise in two fields and pursue different interest areas, gaining a broader range of skills and knowledge, and giving you a competitive advantage and greater career flexibility.
Consider the following double degrees with a Bachelor of Nursing:
- Behavioural Science (Psychology): combine your skills and knowledge for a career as a nurse in a range of areas including emergency, mental health, palliative care or cancer departments.
- Public Health: develop your nursing career in clinical environments or non-clinical roles with a focus on public health areas such as Indigenous health, community health, risk factors for illness, or implementing new policies and programs to improve population health.
Work Integrated Learning
During this course you will be required to complete a minimum of 800 hours of clinical placement.

Nurses are in high demand around Australia according to the 2022 Skills Priority List. Nursing graduates have excellent employment opportunities in a variety of health care settings or health promotion agencies.
Nursing is one of the most diverse health professions and provides employment opportunities in Australia and overseas.
Employment can be in general and specialist areas such as emergency, paediatrics or mental health, and in areas of health care beyond the traditional hospital ward including community health, 'hospital in the home' care, school health, alcohol and drug dependence, and the armed services.
You could choose to complete further study and become specialist in acute care nursing, cancer nursing, emergency nursing, intensive care nursing, mental health nursing, or paediatric, child and youth health nursing.

NS42 Bachelor of Nursing is recognised by the Australian College of Nursing as satisfying the academic requirements for admission as a professional member. NS42 Bachelor of Nursing is an accredited Nursing Pre-registration course of the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council / Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

Assumed knowledge
Before you start this course, we assume you have sound knowledge of the subject/s listed below. If you don't have the subject knowledge, you can still apply for the course but we strongly encourage you to undertake bridging studies to gain the knowledge:
- English, or Literature, or English and Literature Extension, or English as an Additional Language (Units 3 & 4, C)
Additional entry requirements
You must have attended and satisfactorily completed at least 6 years of primary and secondary education taught and assessed solely in English. At least two years of this education must have been between grades 7 and 12. This education must have been completed in one of the following countries:

- Canada
- New Zealand
- Republic of Ireland
- South Africa
- United Kingdom
- United States of America
If you have not met these educational requirements, you are required to provide evidence of an acceptable English Language test (refer below).
English language proficiency
QUT requires students to demonstrate that they can speak, write, read and comprehend academic English to a specified standard.
QUT's English proficiency requirements for this course are:
- IELTS (Academic): 7.0 or better overall with no sub-score below 7.0
- PTE: 65 or better overall with no sub-score below 65
- TOEFL (IBT): 98 or better overall with a writing sub-score of 27 or better, listening and reading sub-scores of 24 or better, and speaking sub-score of 23 or better
- Occupational English Test (Nursing Profession) with a minimum score of 350 in each component.
The test must have been completed within 2 years prior to the proposed course start month.
Diploma of Nursing holders
If you have current AHPRA registration as an Enrolled Nurse (Division 2) (General) without restriction etc and you completed within 10 years prior to admission to the Bachelor of Nursing one of the following qualifications:
You can receive one year of advanced standing. This allows you to complete the course in two years instead of three. You will need to lodge an Advanced Standing application and provide a copy of your award certificate and current registration after you receive your offer.
If you do not have current registration, current registration with restrictions etc, or your diploma was completed more than 10 years ago, no advanced standing will be granted.
Degree holders
If you already hold a degree in any area other than nursing completed within the last ten years, you can apply for the Master of Nursing - Entry to Practice via QTAC and complete your nursing studies in two years.

QUT College Undergraduate Certificate (Nursing)
QUT College Undergraduate Certificate (Nursing) graduates will automatically receive an offer to start the Bachelor of Nursing within three weeks after completion of the undergraduate certificate. You will also automatically receive 0.5 year (48 credit points) credit transfer and be able to complete the degree in 2.5 years as a full-time student (or equivalent part-time).
