Indigenous entrepreneurship is an emerging field of academic research. The creation of new ventures by indigenous people has important implications for diversity, job creation and regional economic development for disadvantaged people. Generally, in Australia, there has been a strong focus on indigenous tourism entrepreneurship, however research suggests that this may not be the most effective pathway (Ruhanen, Whitford & McLennan, 2015). This project will seek to understand the state of play of indigenous entrepreneurship in Australia by undertaking a desktop audit of existing literature, secondary data and strategic planning documents focused on economic development, entrepreneurship and tourism. The aim will be to develop a series of strategic recommendations around future strategies for stimulating indigenous entrepreneurship in Australia.
