Business School a university for the real world

02 September 2019

Australia’s ambassador to the OECD, Dr Alex Robson, will speak about OECD-led research on taxing multinationals which have a large digital presence such as Google, Uber and Airbnb at a public lecture on Friday, 13 September at QUT Gardens Point campus.

Professor Pascalis Raimondos, who heads the QUT School of Economics and Finance, said QUT and the Economic Society of Australia were hosting the talk.

“The OECD has pioneered the work on how to tax digital services that can be located anywhere in the world,” Professor Raimondos said.

“Many of the issues affecting Australia’s long-term welfare require a strong international framework and the current framework for trade and taxation is being challenged in an increasingly digitalised world that is facing renewed trade tensions.

“Dr Robson will discuss the Government’s efforts to advance Australia’s interests at the OECD in response to these challenges, with a special focus on multinational taxation and the digital economy.”

The public lecture will be held in the Owen J Wordsworth Room, S Block, Level 12, QUT Gardens Point campus, Brisbane.

The event is free but registration is required by 11 September for catering reasons. Register here
