A powerful new use for old tyres: On-road testing of a vehicle fuelled with a mix of tyre oil made from recycled tyres and standard diesel has found no loss of performance and emissions similar to that of diesel-only fuel.

Innovation key to empowering elderly: A telescopic robotic arm, street-level social networking to counter loneliness, an app promoting better balance and co-working spaces for entrepreneurial older people – these are some of the solutions presented at the inaugural $20,000 Senior Living Innovation Challenge.

Helium ions open whole new world of materials: QUT scientists have found an exciting new way to manipulate and design materials of the future at the atomic level and change the way they behave at a larger scale that opens the way to new applications such as early cancer biomarkers.
