A powerful new use for old tyres: On-road testing of a vehicle fuelled with a mix of tyre oil made from recycled tyres and standard diesel has found no loss of performance and emissions similar to that of diesel-only fuel.
Innovation key to empowering elderly: A telescopic robotic arm, street-level social networking to counter loneliness, an app promoting better balance and co-working spaces for entrepreneurial older people – these are some of the solutions presented at the inaugural $20,000 Senior Living Innovation Challenge.
Helium ions open whole new world of materials: QUT scientists have found an exciting new way to manipulate and design materials of the future at the atomic level and change the way they behave at a larger scale that opens the way to new applications such as early cancer biomarkers.
QUT’s research into helium ions made international news, while Associate Professor Richard Brown, Associate Professor Gary Mortimer and Dr Rebecca English were all in demand.
