Position: Vice-Chancellor’s Research Fellow, QUT Business School
Field/expertise: Technology and innovation management
What are you working on at the moment?
I am studying the genesis of innovation ecosystems, focusing on the mechanisms, processes, roles, and epochs of change. With my colleagues, I’m studying this in the context of pharmaceutical drugs developed to fight breast cancer.
At the same time, I am leading a project to understand the factors motivating the adoption of vegan innovations - new products that are developed without ingredients sourced from or using animals at any stage of their production.
Why is your work important?
Better understanding of innovation ecosystem genesis can assist practitioners and policy makers devise more effective means of facilitating the formation of collaborative networks. These, in turn, will have a positive effect on the economy, at a regional and/or national level.
Also, a more comprehensive understanding of why individuals purchase vegan products can accelerate their proliferation, which will have positive effects on environmental sustainability, personal health, and importantly, on animal equality.
What excites or inspires you about your field?
These projects excite me because I feel that I can help make a difference, no matter how small, towards alleviating some of the big problems facing the planet and human society.
What are your hopes for the future?
I hope that I can gather more interest and support to continue the work I am currently leading on the proliferation of vegan products. I firmly believe that this issue will become more important in the near future.
