Business School a university for the real world

14 May 2019

Associate Professor Robert Perrons recently was invited to give a keynote address at the United Nations' Resource Management Week event in Geneva, Switzerland.

Associate Professor Perrons from our School of Management who specialises in Technology Management and Strategy, shared with the United Nations how the energy markets of the future will probably look significantly different from how they look today.

'Being a part of this gave me a great chance to meet policymakers and energy industry executives from around the world.'

Associate Professor Perrons was also invited to be a member of the UN’s Expert Group - Resources and Energy.

Associate Professor Perrons’ speech looked at how digital innovations have dramatically reconfigured many industries. From how we move around cities to how we buy household items, digital technologies have brought about significant changes over the past 20 years in many aspects of our lives and in almost every part of the marketplace.

These innovations have given rise to the meteoric rise of companies like Uber and Amazon, and similar architectural shifts are starting to unfold in the energy sector as well. By examining 'fast clock speed' industries and unpacking the market forces and competitive dynamics that have contributed to these shake-ups and significantly new business models, this talk explained how the energy market of the future will probably look significantly different from how it looks today.
