12 March 2012

Senior research fellow in neuroscience and finance at the University of Cambridge and former Wall Street trader for Goldman Sachs and Deutsche Bank, John Coates, will give his presentation titled, "The physiology of financial risk taking" on Monday 12 March in Ballroom C, at the Brisbane Hilton, 190 Elizabeth Street, Brisbane CBD. (Please note the new venue.)

John is well known as a researcher and commentator about the affects of physiological changes in the body for those working in high-pressure environments such as the trading floor on Wall Street.

His work has provided him much media attention, including interviews with BBC, CBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, CNBC and NPR and he has appeared on the BBC's Today programme, BBC Breakfast, CBC The Current, CBS Evening News, and Good Morning America.

In his only Brisbane address on 12 March at QUT, John will present research he has been conducting on a trading floor in the City of London designed to explore the gut feelings required of traders; the ability of humans to compete against computerised trading alogrithms (the so-called Black Boxes); and the hormonal substrates of risk taking.

Please join us for this stimulating and informative event, proudly sponsored by the QUT Business School, and School of Economics and Finance.
