Business School a university for the real world

Event

27 November 2020

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the United Nations. It also represents a time of great disruption, headed by a global health crisis with severe economic and social impacts. As the world grapples with COVID-19 and challenges such as the climate crisis, environmental degradation, poverty and inequality, and rapid changes in technology and population, it is an opportunity to take stock and consider the kind of future we want to create – together, as a global community.

When: Friday, 27 November 2020, 3.30pm - 4.30pm AEST (4.30pm - 5.30pm AEDT)

Webinar via Zoom: REGISTER

Cost: Free

Inspired by the UN75 Dialogues, this Grand Challenge Future Forum webinar asks where we want to be in 2045 - the UN’s 100th anniversary - and how we might get there. What are the priorities and obstacles? How do we collectively navigate our world’s dramatic changes and tackle its complex problems? In an increasingly divided world, what is the role of multilateral global governance in shaping a better future for all?

These questions and more will be discussed by our distinguished panel:

Senator the Hon Penny Wong
Leader of the Opposition in the Senate; Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs

The Hon Brett Mason
Former Australian Ambassador to The Netherlands; Adjunct Professor, QUT Faculty of Law

Professor Jean Burgess
Director, Digital Media Research Centre, QUT Creative Industries Faculty

Professor Hilary Bambrick
Head of School, Public Health and Social Work, QUT Faculty of Health

Moderator:
Dr John Byron
Director, Government Relations and Policy, QUT
