Biography
BackgroundAs a critical care nurse and researcher specialising in adult and paediatric care, I currently hold the position of Joint Professor of Nursing with QUT/RBWH, and serve as a senior researcher with QUT's Centre for Healthcare Transformation and the Alliance for Vascular Access Teaching and Research group (AVATAR). My primary focus is on advancing the professionalism and scientific foundation of nursing, while demonstrating its practical impact in modern healthcare.
My research interests are primarily centred on optimising patient safety and outcomes in acute and critical care through rigorous trial methodologies and effective implementation strategies.
In addition to my research and academic responsibilities, I supervise higher degree research students and serve as an external examiner for several Australian universities. I also fulfil editorial duties as the Editor for the Australian Critical Care Journal and regularly review submissions for various professional journals.
Beyond academia, I contribute to shaping the nursing profession through involvement in key advisory panels and executive committees. Notably, I am a member of the Research Advisory Panel of the Australian College of Critical Care Nurses (ACCCN), the Impact and Implementation Reference Group within the Australian Clinical Trials Alliance (ACTA), and the executive committee for the Australasian Nursing and Midwifery Clinical Trials Network (ANMCTN).
In recognition of my contributions to the nursing field, I was honoured as a Fellow of the Australian College of Nursing in 2023.
Furthermore, I actively participate in the development and refinement of clinical standards, including those established by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Healthcare (ACSQHC) and the Infusion Nurses Society (INS).
