- In 2003, I was awarded 4000 Euros (approx.$7000 AUD) from Finland's Ella and Georg Ehrnrooth Foundation. The purpose of foundation is to promote scientific research and literary activities. Although grants are mainly given to Finnish citizens or institutes, I successfully presented a proposal presented to the board of trustees.

- In 2003, I was one of six researchers who were awarded a prestigious Victoria Fellowship by the Victorian Government. We were each regarded as an emerging leader in engineering, science or technology. I received a travel grant of $15,000 to undertake an overseas study mission in Finland and the United States. This mission allowed me to gather country data and develop international networks as part of my doctoral studies.

- In 2003, I was appointed as a Visiting Fellow at the University of Oulu. This role allowed me to collect data from different science and technology faculties and to network with innovation experts across Finland. The National Technology Agency of Finland (Tekes) invited me to produce a Technology Review consisting of findings to date, which was published in early 2005. I received funding of around $2,500 Euros (approx. $4,000AUD) for this work.
