Teaching

Dr Tran is passionate about teaching and training the next generation of thinkers/engineers/scientists. His approach to teaching and learning is student-centred and a combination of practical and theoretical inquiries. He is teaching at the Queensland University of Technology (2017-present as a Lecturer) and before at the University of Melbourne (2013, as a Lecturer) and Brown University - USA (2009, as a Teaching Assistant).

2021: EGH438 (Biomaterials) – Lecturing the topics of Biophysics of Biomaterial and Nanomedicine and Drug Delivery.

Notable achievement: Designed and implemented, for the first time, a practical session for students to use mobile phones to measure contact angles on surfaces of different roughness and critically analyze how the results fit with different theoretical models.

2020, 2019: EGH438 (Biomaterials) – Lecturing the topics of Biophysics of Biomaterial and Nanomedicine and Drug Delivery.

Notable achievement: Designed and implemented an on-class demonstration/experiment of Brownian diffusion using play balls.

2019, 2018, 2017: PVB204 (Electromagnetism) - Lecturing the topics in Electrodynamics (Maxwell's equations, light)

2013: Biocellular Systems Engineering (University of Melbourne)

University teaching training:
2018: ExPREP (Expert peer review in education practice) Certificate, Queensland University of Technology
2013: Graduate Certificate in University Teaching, the University of Melbourne
Focus: curriculum design, assessment and feedback strategies, e-learning, class planning
2010: University Teaching Certificate, Brown University (USA)
Focus: course design, constructive alignment, effective communication
