Biography
Graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours), Nadeesha pursued further studies in neurological physiotherapy at Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia obtaining her Doctorate in neurological rehabilitation aiming to investigate the effects of Dance for Parkinson’s disease.
During her career, Nadeesha has developed a broad experience as an academic and a physiotherapist in Sri Lanka and Australia. Her career as an academic initiated as a Lecturer in Physiotherapy at the University of Colombo and she received an opportunity to expand her teaching skills as a Sessional Academic attached to the School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences, Queensland University of Technology. Nadeesha is currently working as a Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy at the University of Colombo. She has worked as a physiotherapist in various clinics attached to the University of Colombo and at Hemas Hospital, Wattala, Sri Lanka.
Being an academic Nadeesha has received International recognition for staff who teach and support learning including the Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (Advance HE) of the QUT Academy of Learning and Teaching and the Certificate in Teaching and Higher Education awarded by the Staff Development Centre, University of Colombo. Her Teaching Portfolio was accredited by the Staff and Educational Development Association (SEDA), UK.
Nadeesha’s research has centered upon studies across Neurological Physiotherapy with a special emphasis on Parkinson’s disease, Dance for Parkinson’s, Biomechanics, and dual-tasking.
