Dr Liz Brogden
This person does not currently hold a position at QUT.
Dr Liz Brogden is a Lecturer in Transdisciplinary Design at the Queensland University of Technology. After 5 years in architectural practice, Liz moved into academia in 2014. She takes a determinedly optimistic approach to research and teaching that focuses on disaster resilience and climate action through architecture and design. By integrating her teaching and research, she explores how to effectively combine knowledge and skills with transformative thinking to generate sustainable futures. This has implications beyond higher education as it points to the future of architecture and design practice.
Liz completed her PhD at QUT and Master of Architecture and Bachelor of Environmental Design degrees at the University of Western Australia. Prior to commencing her PhD, she worked on a range of residential, commercial, and public architectural projects.
Currently, Liz coordinates DYB201 Impact Lab 3: Planet, a transdisciplinary core unit in QUT's design degree. The Impact Labs span two faculties, seven design disciplines and incorporate 19 double degrees. Through this, she researches the overlap of sustainable development, resilience and design education.
Liz sits on the national Climate Action and Sustainability Taskforce (CAST) and the Queensland Chapter Sustainability Committee for the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA). Current research projects include ‘Resilience in Education’ (Royal Academy of Engineering), 'Warm-Temperate Climate Study and Design Guideline’ (Toowoomba Regional Council) and ‘Climate Literacy in Architecture Education’ (AASA).
