Biography
Dr. Le Chen is a visiting fellow in the School of Civil Engineering and Built Environment, Science and Engineering Faculty.
Le's research primarily focuses on performance implications of organisational governance mechanisms and routines at both organisational- and project-level.
One research direction is to study knowledge governance mechanisms and learning routines organisations use to drive their capability evolution in a dynamic market. The empirical contexts include project-based organisations such as construction firms, and non-project-based organisations such as manufacturing firms. Within the construction context, joint learning of project stakeholders develops project delivery models to suit market need. For example, knowledge governance mechanisms and learning routines of construction organisations help increase the effectiveness of ICT applications, in particular BIM implementation. Joint learning of construction organisations also develops collaborative approaches for green building project delivery.
Another research direction is to study governance issues related to construction supply chain integration. This direction focus on how hybrid mechanisms, which combine market mechanisms, hierarchical mechanisms, and network mechanisms, facilitate the integration of construction supply chain. For example, hybrid mechanisms in collaborative infrastructure delivery; project governance mechanisms that facilitate the application of BIM; hybrid mechanisms facilitate green building delivery.
To support evidenced-based learning and teaching practice, Le also studies topics associated with work-integrated-learning, and the engagement of engineering students in studying management topics.
