Biography
My aim is to create increased access to education in all its forms. I am passionate about demystifying the academic process to help staff and students realise their professional and academic goals. To date my research has investigated how masculinity is framed within educational settings. This won me a Post-award Research Fellowship with the Griffith Institute of Educational Research where I was able to develop a extensive research profile in the area of gender and education.
I have published consistently on the subject of masculinity, educational access and the dynamics of critical reflective practice in teacher education and have published two books both with Springer Publishing. A sole authored book Stories of Teaching Men and an edited collection Narrative Research in Practice: Stories from the Field.
My early career was as a mental health social worker and then in the field of teacher education, gender studies and research. Whatever the field the consistent focus throughout my career has been a deep concern for people who desire to learn, and increasing access to the institutions that are designed to educate them.
