Biography
Dr Hyungtaek Jung joined the Centre for Agriculture and Biocommodities (CAB) to help molecular biologists and plant biotechnologists by analysing big biology data generated from 2nd and 3rd generation sequencing approaches.Research Interests;
1. Bioinformatics for Big Biology using 2nd and 3rd generation sequencing approaches ► Genome and transcriptome assembly and annotation.
2. Functional/Comparative Pan-Genomics for (Phylogenomics and Syntenic analysis) ► Understanding genome structural variation (gene/genome duplication and re-arrangement) ► Transcriptional and post-transcriptional gene regulation on hybridization, heterosis, domestication and speciation.
3. Developing and undertaking multi-disciplinary research/teaching projects ► Generating and curating dynamic web interfaces for genome examination and interrogation.
Dr Jung’s successful experience with multiple national and international laboratories has been even expanded to aqua/agriculture, molecular ecology, genomics, and bioinformatics. Currently, Dr Jung is actively involved in the collection, collation and analysis of NGS data obtained from the Nicotiana benthamiana genome consortium (including wild accessions) with Prof Peter Waterhouse and EU 2020 Horizon Newcotiana partners (www.newcotiana.org). Two openly accessible interactive websites (www.benthgenome.com and www.nbenth.com) have been set up to facilitate examination of gene expression patterns, microRNA regulation, CRISPR-Cas gene editing for plant molecular biologists.
