Dr Elham Sayyad Abdi

Biography
Dr. Elham Sayyad Abdi is an associate lecturer in Information Systems School at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). She is a member of QUT’s Information Studies Group, a research team with a focus on people’s information experiences. Being a qualitative researcher, Elham’s research interest lies in information literacy, how it can be enabled, specifically within an everyday life context. Her recent research activities are focused on immigrants’ information experience through which she is developing the concept of information experience design as an enabler of information literacy. Elham is currently project leading a three-year Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkage project on migrants’ information literacy. In 2017, she will also co-lead a LISRA-funded research project to investigate how libraries can enhance the information experience of non-library user refugees. Since 2013, she has been a member of a research team studying and publishing about people’s learning in the QUT Cube, one of the world’s biggest multi-touch screen learning environments. At present, she is also finalising a QUT Teaching and Learning Grant-funded research on developing a student-centred multi-modal education framework. Since 2014, Elham has taught different subjects in the Master of Information Science at QUT such as Information Retrieval, Online Information Services, Professional Practice, Information Organisation and Management Issues for Information Professionals. She has also been supervising doctoral, master’s and research project students and has been on the review panel of several doctoral theses as well as QUT scholarships. In 2014, she coordinated a regular Information Studies Group (ISG) forum and a student research circle for ISG students. Elham has a Library and Information Science background and has been an active member of the Library and Information profession. She is a committee member of the Australian Library and Information Association, Queensland and, at an international level, the secretary for the Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T), Asia-Pacific Chapter. She has also served on the organising and program committee of several local and international conferences and symposiums such as 2015 and 2016 ALIA QLD Mini Conference, European Confernece on Infomation Literacy (ECIL2017) and a methodology symposium at QUT in 2014.Personal details
