Biography
- Csaba Buday is Lecturer in Contemporary Dance and Resident Choreographer for the Dance Discipline in the faculty of Creative Industries, Education and Social Justice at QUT.

A graduate of the Australian Ballet School, Csaba has had an impressive career as a performer, choreographer, director, teacher, and researcher, spanning 37 years.
He has worked with many of Australia's leading professional dance companies including The Australian Ballet, Australian Dance Theatre, Sydney Dance Company, Dance North and Leigh Warren and Dancers, performing numerous works by some of the world’s most eminent contemporary choreographers such as, Jirí Kylián (Nederlands Dans Theatre), Paul Taylor (Paul Taylor Dance Company), Glen Tetley (Stuttgart Ballet), Graeme Murphy (Sydney Dance Company) and William Forsythe (Forsythe Company and Frankfurt Ballet). During this period, Csaba toured extensively throughout Australia, Asia, and Europe, performing at prestigious International Arts Festivals including the Turning World Festival (London).
Csaba has undertaken music video clip and several motion picture engagements. These have included, being cast in the lead role as ‘The Faun’ in Nijinsky’s ballet Afternoon of a Faun in the International film The Diaries of Vaslav Nijinsky directed by Paul Cox and, cast as a company dancer in the Australian multimillion-dollar feature film The Coolangatta Gold.
Csaba has also undertaken acting and singing roles in joint productions between Australian Dance Theatre and State Theatre Company South Australia and, Australian Dance Theatre and State Opera South Australia.
Csaba's vast experience and knowledge in Contemporary Dance pedagogy has led to invitations to teach for many well-renowned professional dance companies and institutions including:

In 1992 Csaba was the only national choreographer chosen to represent Australia at the prestigious Suzanne Dellal International Dance Completion in Tel Aviv, Israel, presenting 3 original dance works performed by artists of Australian Dance Theatre.
Csaba is a 1999 Choreographic Fellowship recipient (Choreographic Centre, Canberra). He is also the recipient of several other grants including:
- Creative Development grant awarded by ARTSA, 1997.
- Asialink grant awarded by The Australia Council and the South Australian Department for the Arts and Cultural Development, 1996.
- Professional Development grant awarded by the Department of Arts and Cultural Heritage SA, 1990.
Between 2000 and 2003 Csaba held the position of Artist-in-Residence at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
Between 1996 and 1997 Csaba held the position of Artist-in-Residence at the Centre for the Performing Arts (Adelaide, Australia).
Csaba’s current research lies in the implementation of smartphone technology in contemporary dance training to advance learning outcomes for tertiary dance students. Csaba presented a paper on this research at the World Dance Alliance Global Summit in Angers, France in 2014. This paper culminated in a journal article titled Self and peer review in dance classes using personal video feedback.
Csaba graduated from QUT with a Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice and a Master of Arts (Research) and the Australian Ballet School with a Diploma (Dance).
Csaba is in the process of starting a PhD at QUT, undertaking a hybrid methodological approach of predominantly practice-led research, incorporating aspects of action research and phenomenology.

Teaching
Csaba tutors in ballet, contemporary dance technique, composition and interdisciplinary practice. He designs, coordinates and delivers a range of technique, performance, choreographic and interdisciplinary units as well as, coordinating capstone units for the BFA Dance course.
