Biography
Dr Bessie Stone is a lecturer in the School of Early Childhood and Inclusive Education, Faculty of Creative Industries, Education, and Social Justice, Queensland University of Technology.Her research interest lies in the fields of inclusive education, diversity, autism, digital literacies and media practices, digital literacy pedagogy, multimodality, internet safety, and teacher education. Her experiences in the education industry span over 20 years and range from early childhood to tertiary level in Australia and the Caribbean. Bessie's thesis investigated the affordances of online multiplayer games for social interactions of students with autism. A significant outcome of her research was the development of an innovative conceptual framework—Inclusive New Literacies—which integrated key concepts from inclusive education and New Literacy Studies fields. Bessie continues to develop this conceptual framework to make innovative contributions to research across areas including inclusive pedagogical development, teacher professional experience, and diverse students’ literacy practices.
