Biography
Annette Patterson PhD is Emeritus Professor at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Education, QUT. She graduated in 1976 with a teaching qualification (GradDipEd) from The University of Western Australia. Over the following ten years she taught English and Social Studies at South Fremantle Senior High School, Mt Lawley Senior High School and Methodist Ladies College, Perth while completing an honours degree and commencing doctoral studies at UWA on a Commonwealth Postgraduate Scholarship. In 1990 she was appointed as a Lecturer in English Curriculum at Murdoch University before moving to James Cook University where she held positions as Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor and Professor. In 2001 she was appointed Head of School and then Dean of Education at JCU which she held for six years prior to her appointment as Head of School in the Faculty of Education at QUT in December 2006. Annette retired from QUT in December 2012 and was awarded Emeritus Professor by the University and appointed as an Adjunct Professor by the Faculty of Education.

Executive roles: Executive member of the Australian Association for Research in Education 2004-2010 as Managing Editor of the Association's research journal, The Australian Educational Researcher; International member of the National Council of Teachers of English, History of the Council Assembly, NCTE Urbana, Illinois 2001-2004.
International experience: Awarded a Visiting International Fellowship to teach Australian Literature in the English Department, Ball State University, Indiana, USA Spring Semester 2000; worked with Sheridan Blau, University of California at Santa Barbara on the Santa Barbara Literature Project 1993 and with Judith Green on discourse analysis at UCSB 1994.
