QUT is proud to announce that Australia's outgoing Governor-General, Her Excellency the Honourable Dame Quentin Bryce AD CVO, will base her official Brisbane office at QUT in the Chancellery on Gardens Point campus.

QUT Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Coaldrake said Ms Bryce had been made an honorary doctor of the university in 2004, during her tenure as Queensland Governor, for her long and distinguished record of advocacy for women and children.

"Ms Bryce has had a lifetime commitment to education and social justice, particularly for the needs of people in regional and rural areas and the challenges Indigenous Australians face," Professor Coaldrake said.

"This aligns perfectly with QUT's thinking and we look forward to welcoming her into our community."

Professor Coaldrake said Ms Bryce's outstanding service had been recognised with Prime Minister Tony Abbott's announcement that she would be the first Dame in the Order of Australia, an honour to be bestowed on Australians for "'extraordinary and pre-eminent achievement and merit' in their service to Australia or to humanity at large".

"Apart from her own writing and attending to her many interests and commitments, Ms Bryce is greatly looking forward to being part of our community, and being involved with a range of activities here, the William Robinson Gallery among them."
